Which the mitochondria does by creating ATP or energy for the cell. The smooth endoplasmic reticulum can be compared to a highway because it regulates things, like the SER which regulates and releases calcium ions and processes toxins. Rough endoplasmic reticulum would be like a dirt roads of a city because they still play important roles for the city, but they are more of a rough surface. Like how the RER has ribosomes attached to its surface., but still plays a very important in the synthesis and packaging of proteins. The Golgi apparatus's function is to modifying, sorting and packaging of proteins for secretion, it also helps with the transport of lipids, this would be like the UPS or post office of a city. Both the Golgi apparatus and UPS package and ship things throughout the city or cell. Ribosomes are the protein builders or the protein synthesizers of the cell, they could be compared ot the factories of a city. Solar energy plants of a city would be like the chloroplast of a cell because the chloroplast also takes sunlight a produce energy to a plant during photosynthesis.. The central vacuoles could be compared to a city reservoir which maintains the proper pressure and water within the city like the central vacuoles does within the plant cells to provide structure, and support for the growing plant, it is often the largest organelle in the cell.
